About LNAT

LNAT is known as National Admission test for Law it is an admission aptitude based test that is entry based admission requirement for studying Law currently used by UK universities. It is an online test it assesses your general comprehension and reasoning skills, both are important for the study and practice of law.

The Law National Aptitude Test

It consists of two sections:

  • Section A: Multiple choice questions
  • Section B: Essay

LNAT test comprises of 3 essay out of which 1 needs to be attempted, 42 multiple choice questions to measure reading comprehension and logical reasoning skills, reading which contains 12 short passages, with three or four questions each passage. 

Total Number of questions in LNAT part I?
This section consists of 42 multiple choice questions. The questions are based on 12 argumentative passages, with 3 or 4 multiple choice questions on each.

Total Number of questions in LNAT part II?
In the second part of the test you will be asked to write one essay from a list of three suggested subjects. This section is not marked by the test centre and does not contribute to your LNAT score, but it is designed to see your ability to construct a compelling argument and reach a conclusion.

What is the Total Time for LNAT part I?
In Section A, you will be given 95 minutes to all the first part.

What is the Total Time for LNAT part II?
In section B, you will have 40 minutes to answer one of three essay questions on a range of subjects.

What is the duration of LNAT paper?
The test consists of 2 parts section A for 95 minutes and section B for 40 minutes a total of 2 and a half hour will be given to complete the test with a 15 mins break after section A.

    If its not mentioned in your registration or you did not inform LNAT about it prior to your test day (at least 2 weeks before) then the special access will not be applicable for your test.


    If you reach in first 15 mins of the reporting time the test centre will allow you to entre the centre, you will have to inform the LNAT before about your arrival so that they can inform the test centre to let you in. If you reach after 15 mins be prepared to reapply for the test next year.

    The Bar Council of India recognises degrees from 35 UK universities and there are two different methods which you can proceed further: Registration for students having LLB degree from recognised UK University

    1. Apply for registration to your related State Bar Council after returning to India.
    2. State Bar Council will forward your application to Bar Council of India
    3. Sit for an exam on six subjects, which is conducted twice a year by Bar Council of India.
    4. You are permitted to practice law in India on successfully qualifying the exam.

    Registration for students having LLB degree from non-recognised UK University.

    1. Apply directly to Bar Council of India. 
    2. Your application will be considered on case-to-case basis for approval.
    3. If your application got approval, you can practice Law in India.
