Sub Section in IELTS Speaking

In: IELTS By: Pradipto Chatterjee

The IELTS speaking section has 3 subsections.
The 1st section is an introductory section, where the students are asked questions regarding themselves. The questions may relate to their family, education, work, hobbies etc.
The 2nd section is a monologue section. Here the students are given a general topic. They have 1 minute to prepare and then they have to speak for 1 to 2 minutes. Ideally the student should continue to speak till he is stopped. He will be stopped after 2 minutes. The topic will have 4/5 questions / pointers. These questions must be covered in the given 2 minutes. The 1 minute preparation time should be used to understand the topic and think through the topic carefully. Detailed notes need not be taken. Only main points needs to be noted and then suitably expanded while speaking.
The 3rd section is a dialogue section, where questions are asked related to the topic of the 2nd section. Students do not get any preparation time to answer the questions in this section. It’s very important to listen to the question carefully. If the student doesn’t understand the question, je can request the examiner to repeat the question or ask for clarification. Clarity is important, otherwise the answer might not be correct. The answer should not be too long or too short.
