With the ever increasing number of students wanting to pursue undergrad studies in US the demand of SAT and ACT is on the rise. The most important question troubling the young minds is "Should I give SAT or ACT"? Through this article I will bring  out the differences between both the exams.

Let me mention the definition first. The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school while the  SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities.

The duration of ACT is 3 hours 25 mins and questions are quite straightforward, may be long but are usually less difficult to decipher .The duration of SAT  is 3 hours 45 mins with tricky questions that can be phrased in ways that make them difficult to decipher. So all those smart high school students who are ready to work harder SAT is just for you!!Get ready!!

ACT score is between 1-36 while SAT score is between 600-2400.

The ACT has up to 5 components: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test.  You take the ACT Writing Test only if required or requested by the college(s) you're applying to. The SAT has only 3 components: Critical Reading, Mathematics, and a mandatory Writing Test.

Now comes one of the key difference . There is negative marking in SAT which penalizes you for wrong answers, so guessing in SAT is a big No No. The ACT , on the other hand ,is scored based on the number of correct answers with no penalty for guessing.Hurray!!

Finally I will conclude by saying that the difficulty level of SAT and ACT is quite similiar but each test benefits a different type of a student. For the best scores it is essential that you figure out which test is best for you.
