GMAT vs. GRE, Which one is right for me?

In: GMAT By: Ankit Gupta

As you guys are already aware about the two much known exams for higher international qualification (acceptable domestically as well by institutes like ISB) i.e. GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) and GRE (Graduate Record Examination), it would be good to know, as to which one will be a better fit for you. Students are mostly confused about which exam to take, even if they are well sure of the fact that which country they want to go for higher studies.
Let me guide you briefly about the same and clear the confusion. GMAT has historically been largely reserved for students, who wish to go for higher education in the field of management studies (e.g. MBA, MS), in business schools around the world. However over the recent past more and more well known business schools have started to accept GRE score for admissions into their college.
As such there is now there is no big difference between the two. The course curriculum for both of them is also largely the same. If you master one, you are automatically the master of other. However, in case one has doubt on that, he / she should do practice test of both GMAT and GRE and thereafter take a call which one is easier to target for oneself. Further, there is much more information available on the internet, particularly blogs, which help you with real time examples of people who are already studying abroad. Both of these tests are valid for 5 years. However, the fee for GRE is relatively less than that of GMAT.
Notwithstanding one ability to do one exam better than the other (which is generally the case), there is no rule as to in which case one should go for GMAT and so for GRE. However, in general practice, one generally identifies the college one wants to go to or rather shortlist various colleges and give the exam which is acceptable by most of the colleges intended to apply for.
