20 Tips for TOEFL

Lets us divide these tips into two broad categories for your better understanding. To begin with, we would first take up the pre-test strategies:

1.     Get acquainted with the TOEFL format beforehand.

2.     Research on the various requirements of TOEFL.

3.     Get familiarized with the academic form of English

4.     Take up ample of practice test before the actual test.

5.     Develop a sitting habit.

6.     Arrive at the test centre prepared

7.     Lay your hands well on typing skills

8.     Find yourself a good trainer

9.     Pace up yourself

10.   Expertise yourself with the note taking process

11.   Keep yourself updated with the latest information on the Toefl website

12.   Never to forget to have a meal before the test.
 

Nextly, we lay our hands onto the on-test strategies:

1.       Answer all the questions

2.       Reading Strategies:

Do not waste your time in understanding everything mentioned in the passage, with special attention on factual information. Your major focus should be in understanding the overall layout of the passage. Later skim and scan through the passage while answering the questions.

3.       Speaking Strategies:

Be calm and composed. Don’t try to rush across the speaking task, but instead try and maintain a normal rate of speech. Be clear and coherent with the content that you present. Also there is a special attention on the pronunciation, so try and be confident on the pronunciation of the words.

4.       Writing Strategies:

Let’s keep these tips as short as possible. Make a note of 4 C’s:

·         Concise

·         Complete

·         Coherent

·         Cohesive

5.       Listening Strategies:

Train yourself in a way that you are able to understand and make notes with a single round of listening, as on the day of exam, you will be given a single opportunity to go through the listening section.

6.       Master all these strategies as much as possible

7.       Dress up with your comfort

8.       Post test, don’t forget to reward yourself for all the effort and time that you put in learning and practicing.
